Thanks but No Thanks

Thanks, but No Thanks

Yes, this is the time of the year to be thankful I know, however I always feel that listing all the stuff for which you feel the need for giving thanks is a little braggy. ‘I’m so lucky, blah blah, blah. And too bad you’re not.” Anyway, I find that you truly can’t be grateful for anything unless if you’ve been without it.

A good example is feeling good. I for one, take good health for granted, but won’t from now on. Eight weeks of the repercussions from COVID – not hearing, congestion, exhaustion and a little depression. Note: I only missed writing this blog once! What a trooper! Finally, after a little treatment -incision in the ear drum - I can hear again. Not something I want to do regularly. I make my usual pact with the devil – now that I’m cured I’ll never to complain about anything again! What a laugh!

How about financial security? Almost my whole life was spent without it and now, though not wealthy by any stretch, I have a small measure of it. Yeah, I worked somewhat diligently. However, I never dug ditches in the summer in Mississippi nor did I clean up after the elephants at the zoo. I am VERY grateful to have the luxury of doing things I like, such as writing a blog.

Now, here’s a biggie. Losing something, something really important like contact info for a client, a really important client or your credit card – you get the picture. But…….the exhilaration upon finding the treasure! I feel sorry for people who don’t lose things – they’re missing one of the biggest thrills in life!

What about finding out your little fender bender will only cost a fraction of what you thought. Wow – be thankful, go out and have a great meal to celebrate and leave a big tip! Go ahead order lobster or a tomahawk steak and wash it down with a pricey Napa red.

Henry is resentfully, expressing appreciation for me, his person. He says he’s grateful for 3 hots and a cot and a backyard to loll in. Life is good………..

He will post his Thanksgiving poem next week.

  1. I was told I had to read this blog and post a comment so I’m thankful I’ve fulfilled my obligation! And, BTW, privilege of old age, good health, few adversities, and a simple life is something to be extremely thankful for.
