Too Maddening for Words
Too Maddening for Words
(to the tune of Too Marvelous for Words)
OMG! What have I created? Having been invited by a friend to play Words with Friends and encouraged by my son to do the same, I installed the wwf app. Not without help, of course. After an hour and a half at the Apple store, I was thrilled to be a part of wwf group of scrabble aficionados. I was looking forward to a relaxing hour or two of playing once in a while, but no! My friend and my son both like to play randomly and perpetually so I will be notified that it's my turn whenever THEY are ready. They would both be great general contractors, hopping from job to job and finishing none.
So my first games come while I’m cooking dinner. The swooshing on my phone is almost constant…..is swooshing even a scrabble approved word? That’s what the notification of a nagging text on my phone sounds like “your turn, your turn”. Apparently both friend and son are ready. In the meantime, while figuring out what to play with e,e,i,i,o,a,c, the water has boiled dry in the steamer burning the Brussels sprouts to black pellets.
My son tells me I can exchange letters – who knew? Also who knew I would give up a turn?! Not me. Aw – c’mon, couldn’t you cut your elderly mother a break? Like I never let you win when you were a child. Yeah, you’re right – I guess I never did! Oops, another swoosh and another “your turn”.
Now my friend is ready and I put the tuna in the microwave at 5 minutes and run over to the iPad to continue this fun game. But in my zeal to conquer the scrabble mountain I’m climbing, I forgot to put the power on 2. Wow – now neither the entree nor the vegetable is edible, I guess I’ll have popcorn and wine for dinner and throw in a hunk of cheese. This seems to cover the basic food groups.
More swooshing – ye gods will it never end? Now my son is ready for my entry. How many points do I get for IGIVEUP?
Henry’s comment, “Everything’s gone to hell – this is no different than any of her other addictions. Not pretty”.
