All's Well That Ends Well, Sometimes
All’s Well That Ends Well, Sometimes
Back from my little celebration in Santa Rosa. What a perfect day in California - John and Vikki are driving me back and we’re on the beautiful, scenic 280, Sunday morning, very little traffic and bragging rights weather. Life is good and we spend a leisurely afternoon doing puzzles, reading and relaxing. We have reservations at our favorite Chinese restaurant in Sunnyvale for dinner and our parking karma is working, because we couldn’t have found a better spot.
You probably have figured it out that we’re foodies. We order our usual and I order a gin martini on the rocks. The bartender must have been in a good mood – a tumbler sized drink arrives. So generous, it lasted throughout the meal. Purists out there, please don’t chastise me for drinking a cocktail with my entree - we drink cocktails along with appetizers, don’t we?? Our dinner arrives, and true to form we are never disappointed. The chicken salad is the best and so is the Tao Tao beef. Snow peas with water chestnuts will turn a carnivore into a vegan!
Our car was so close to the rear exit, that before we were actually out the door we saw that the car windows were open – oh no, we had been broken into with nothing broken. Apparently old cars are easy to get into and also it appears that the ignition can be activated. All the windows were down, the sun roof partially open and the glove box had been rifled through. Nothing missing but my registration. The car was not what they wanted.
So I learned that the plan is to get the owners’ address, where it’s obvious they are not at this time. and rob the house. I’m lucky to live in high density
townhouse community with only a carport, thus no garage door opener to steal and use to get in.
AAA came to the rescue and it took less than ½ hour and $28 to get a new registration. I guess the moral of the story is drive an old car and live in a place with no garage and have a membership to AAA.
And now another crime story. There was a thief in Silicon Valley who only stole safes. He was successful enough to support himself and clever enough not to be arrested. It was a routine theft until he opened his booty. Good lord! – it was full of child pornography, including a photo of the safe owner having sex with a child. What to do?!
How can he report this without implicating himself? So he gathered the incriminating evidence and anonymously dropped it off at the local police station. The pornographer was arrested and the police were able to trace the dropped off evidence to the safe thief. When asked to testify at the expense of his own defense he agreed. Now they’re both in the slammer. However the thief cut a deal and I believe he got a reduced sentence.
He kicked his drug habit, found god, and became a plumber. So now he can rob you blind legally!
So honor among thieves? Hmm, sometimes.
