Death by a Thousand Cuts
Death by a Thousand Cuts
Or, how about a psychotic episode by a myriad of non-life threatening, first world problems? I really think I should have used the original name I had for this blog – “The Weekly Kvetch”!
Here it goes. I live in a modestly priced condominium complex in an average city – not a slum, however not Beverly Hills. We have very little crime here because it looks as if there would be nothing of value to steal. So the question posed is: what is the need for a high intensity flood light illuminating a gated back yard. Not only one yard, but those yards around it. Yes, my backyard, to which my bedroom opens. For optimal sleep quality, I like cool, dark and quiet. This neighbor is lovely and reasonable and asked that the tenants, who are traveling to send someone over to turn off the light. Voila! Problem solved. I’m enjoying dark and cool…………..but quiet is another story.
There are two groups of people for which I will go to the ends of the earth in order to have decent relationships. Daughters-in-law and next door neighbors. Success, with my daughter-in-law. NDN, not so much. There is some sadness there – death of a partner, alcohol issues and probably more stuff than I’m aware of, Anyway no problems until I came home from Milwaukee. Yikes! Standing against our shared fence is a structure over a foot higher. It turns out this was approved by the architectural committee and the HOA board. My understanding has always been, per the rules, that nothing could be in the yard higher than fence level.
Silly me – this applies to sheds! Which at the time of the rules inception was the only structure desired in the yard. Who knew?! It looks as if saunas are acceptable! Anyway, I’m sure you’re thinking “stop your whining and modify your landscaping to hide this eyesore!” Yes, it’s my plan, however the sauna is right outside my sliding bedroom door and, what I think to be some sort of heat pump, thumps away intermittently all night long. OMG – I’m trying to get some resolution through the architectural committee, but it appears my only option is to hire an attorney. Having been a real estate broker for many years, we, in the business, when asked what happens when you get a lawyer involved, answer: Nothing!
Who, with 6 cars, buys a townhouse with a 1 car carport and one additional assigned space? My neighbor did! I’m fortunate that the cul-de-sac I’m on has an abundance of guest parking so none of us is suffering, however, being a rule follower, I find it irritating that the 72 hour parking rule is totally ignored. But I tell myself that I need to get accustomed to the fact that there are a lot of privileged, entitled people around – and it seems that they are here to stay!
I came back from Milwaukee with a cold and now an ear problem – can’t hear. If I could hear I would be more capable of handling these problems. Remember my health care provider is the one which urges its members to thrive – forget thriving – I’d rather hear. It seems as if the procedure to clear the eustachian tubes is more costly than letting the patient wait it out - being literally deaf is very depressing to the patient!
Good news! Brewers are up 3 in the World Series. And the Warriors dominated The Nuggets! It seems as if Lendeborg was the draft pick Golden State needed!
PS, No more sauna thumping. It wasn’t sauna related – it’s my ear issue! I’m hearing my pulse. So I guess you might say this is all in my head!
